The practice of reflection in an automated world

168 helps you balance how you spend your most precious asset, your time.

When we first came up with the idea for 168, we realized that much of people’s lives are stored in their online calendars. Hence, our first few concepts were all about importing activities from these calendars and automatically tracking them through 168. It made perfect logical sense.

Yet, as we explored the concept further, something became apparent to us; the act of tracking your time and the experience of inputting each event and deciding which focus should be ascribed to it (Tasks, Health or Creative) creates a small period of time in the day for reflection. If this process is automated, that space for reflection is lost – losing the opportunity to step back and see not just what you did but to ask yourself the important question, why did I choose to focus my time in that way?

Hence, 168 is purposefully not automated, precisely to protect that moment of reflection and the chance to step back.
